Freedom U Joins Student Walkout to Supreme Court on Eve of DACA Hearing

Last week, staff members Emiko, Arizbeth, and Rafael represented Freedom University on a delegation to Washington DC to deliver lectures at Georgetown University and present at an Undocumented Student Success conference on the eve of the start of the Supreme Court hearing on DACA on November 12.

As DACA recipients, Arizbeth and Rafael gave powerful testimonios, in which they shared their stories of growing up undocumented in Georgia, finding Freedom University, and developing into freedom fighters on the front lines of the undocumented student movement. They shared and learned from undocumented student support staff members at Georgetown, UC Berkeley, Loyola Marymount Chicago, and educators across the country. They reunited with Freedom University alumni studying in colleges in Washington, DC. And most importantly, on Friday, they joined thousands of undocumented youth and their allies in the school walkout and march to the Supreme Court, and felt the reassuring power of organized young people.

They returned to Atlanta with hundreds of new friends in the struggle for immigrants’ rights and a renewed sense of hope that, regardless of the Supreme Court decision next spring, they are going to be alright.
