Who We Are

Freedom University is a safe educational space for young people, age 17-25, who identify as undocumented immigrants. We welcome students with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or Temporary Protected Status (TPS), undocumented students ineligible for DACA, and survivors of human trafficking. We do not charge tuition of any kind and do not discriminate on the basis of race, national or ethnic origin, economic background, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity. We accept up to 25 students each semester based on a written application and in-person interview, and require that our students commit to attending all weekly classes, supporting one another, and never giving up on their dream of attending college. Please see our list of courses from previous semesters.

When We Meet

We meet in a safe location in central Atlanta from 2-6pm on Sunday afternoons.

In the fall, we have an optional arts night from 8-10pm on Thursday evenings and an SAT Preparation program from 10am-12pm on Saturday mornings.

In the spring, we have optional performing/studio arts classes on Saturdays from 12-4pm.

In the summer, we have a college preparation course for our students accepted to college, and an intensive SAT program for new and continuing students.

We arrange free transportation to class for students living within a 30-mile radius from downtown Atlanta. If you need a ride to class, please contact our Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator, Arizbeth Sanchez at

What To Expect

While students do not receive college credit for their coursework at Freedom University, students do take CLEP courses that prepare them for the College Board CLEP exams that earn them college credits that can be transferred to a future college or university. In addition, we prepare students to succeed in rigorous college environments, assist students in the college application process, and provide them with a supportive community of mentors, professors, and undocumented peers. As the only school for undocumented youth, we are considered the one true sanctuary campus in the United States.

As a student applicant, you will receive a phone call from our executive director regarding your in-person interview, which will take place from 2-5pm on Sunday, June 9, 2019. Students are accepted based on their character, the alignment of their personal goals with our mission, their agreement to the principles in the Student Code of Conduct, and their commitment to the collective good of the Freedom University community. Students will receive notice of their acceptance to our Summer 2019 SAT Program on June 10, 2019.

Our Summer 2019 semester runs from June 16-August 11, 2019.
