Freedom University Northeast College Tour 2019!

Last week, three Freedom University students and our director, Dr. Emiko Soltis, embarked on an incredible college tour to welcoming colleges for undocumented students in the Northeast! They visited Middlebury College, Amherst College, and Smith College in Vermont and Massachusetts. Students gave educational panels as experts on the undocumented student experience, went on campus tours, participated in admissions interviews, and attended classes with student hosts. But most of all, they experienced joy and embodied resilience in the face of Georgia’s discrimination.

While Georgia is hell-bent on banning undocumented students from public higher education and setting up every obstacle to ensure that undocumented students are funneled away from higher education and into low wage jobs, Freedom University students are unbothered. They are paving their own pathway to college with the help of students, faculty, and staff across the country who are eager to welcome students so willing to learn, work hard, and contribute to their communities.

Here’s to these brave young warriors fighting for their human right to education. Middlebury, Amherst, Smith, and any other college would be lucky to have them as students!
